The Money Fix Fundraiser and Panel Discussion
At the Hollywood Theatre on June 21 at 7pm

Like it or not, money is the driving force in today's world and the average human being's every day existence. However, the process behind where money comes from is extremely complex and largely unknown to the general public, and in fact involves profound implications on society and democracy.

In THE MONEY FIX, Portland filmmaker Alan Rosenblith takes a hard look behind the scenes of America's monetary system, documenting a systemic shortage of money on a global scale that encourages competition, and compromises basic human values. To counter this issue, Rosenblith explores how the economy can be rebuilt at a local level in such a way that is more humane and inclusive. One such example featured in the film is a currency system operating in Hood River, Ore. that is finding viable solutions to some of the problems inherent to the creation and use of money.

THE MONEY FIX features exclusive interviews with the following experts: Michael Albert, Gar Alperovitz, Fritjof Capra, Noam Chomsky, Riane Eisler, Robert Frank, William Greider, Hazel Henderson, Bernard Lietaer, Scott Pittman, Robert Pollin, Robert Putnam, Constance Rice, Elizabet Sahtouris, Juliet Schor, Stacey Shaw, Michael Shuman, George Selgin, Aqeela Sherrills, Lynne Twist, Charles Wheelan, Lawrence White, Susan Witt, and Howard Zinn.

Created in partnership with Film Action Oregon (FAO), provider of nonprofit support to Oregon's indigenous filmmaking community, THE MONEY FIX will premiere at the historic Hollywood Theatre on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 each and proceeds will help fund the film's distribution and festival fees. Visit www.themoneyfix.org for details.
What is PDX Hours?
PDXHours is a complimentary currency initiative that is local to the Portland, Oregon region. The role of this alternative currency is to provide a medium of exchange to allow local consumers a preference for local goods and services. It is meant to compliment, not replace, federal currency.

As a printed currency, PDXHours hopes to provide consumers and local businesses with a higher degree of connectivity related to the way that they obtain services and products, with a strong dependence on their community's local production. The advantages of this program exceeds local economic development and extends into greater consumer awareness regarding sustainability, better community collaboration, and, potentially, PDXHour-sponsored grants to local small businesses and community projects.

This local currency model is currently in place in dozens of communities throughout the US, notably in Hood River, OR, and Ithaca, NY.
Now forming the PDX Hours Board of Directors
There is a lot of work to be done in order to establish and promote PDX Hours. However, the rewards for our community will be well worth these efforts.

It is critical to identify individuals to join the Board of Directors and can volunteer their skills and energy into founding this program. If you are interested in playing a part in creating this exciting new non-profit program, please contact info@pdxhours.org.

We are looking for individuals throughout the region as well as service professionals such as lawyers, accountants, and, of course, local business owners to share their voices in the collaborative development of PDX Hours.

If you would like to play a part in creating a member-owned, democratic community currency for Portland, please contact info@pdxhours.org.
What do you think money is?
Could you believe that money can simply be a form of exchange, that can be based on a value set not by a bank but on the faith and effort of the people that you trade with? If you are given the ability to spend your money with a neighbor or a stranger, would you choose to spend it with your neighbor, a local business, and make a direct impact in supporting our regional economy?

PDX Hours is about creating that freedom of choice and building a preference to use local money throughout our local community. Community currency is currently in place in dozens of towns and cities throughout the US, promoting regional economic independence, responsible citizenship, and creating a greater realization of that community's potential.

In order to minimize reliance on the debt-riddled US Dollar, local communities throughout the country have been developing local currencies. These currencies are based on the average hourly earnings of each region and are legally exchanged as cash.

The value of community currency is to increase the exchange of products and services that are produced in the Portland metropolitan region. The dollar that you spend at Home Depot goes to headquarters in Atlanta, while that money, spent at your local hardware store will stay in Portland, fostering community growth.

In addition, mature community currency programs focus on sustainability, zero-rate community development loans, and many other projects that are managed by members.

If you are interested in community currency and what it can do for Portland, drop a line to info@pdxhours.org and share your thoughts.
